Knights of St. Columbanus Success

We are delighted to announce that four of our students have been successful in the Ulster region of the Knights of St. Columbanus Competition. Pupils were tasked with the challenge of writing a 1,500/2,000 word essay on topics ranging from the right to life to social media.

Roisin responded to the words of Pope Francis “That is why I constantly urge young people not to let themselves be robbed of hope; to each of them I repeat: Let no one despise your youth”.

Patrick spoke on the right to life, “Every human being has the right to live with dignity and to develop integrally; this fundamental right cannot be denied by any country”- Pope Francis.

Katie discussed the impact of Social Media, "There is the dangerous phenomenon of young people becoming “social hermits” who risk alienating themselves completely from society” - Pope Francis.

Logan also discussed social media, “We can't develop as moral agents on social media”, Chief Rabbi Lord Sacks.

It is a great privilege to announce that Roisin Gormley was placed first, Patrick Devlin was placed second and Katie Sesay and Logan McMahon were placed joint third. All of our winners will now succeed to the All-Ireland Final.

Congratulations to all!
