Public Speaking Competition

Recently, Emma Duffy (Year 9), Eve Wilson (Year 9) and Leia Phenix (Year 10) participated in the Queen's University Heat of the Irish Federation of University Women Public Speaking Competition. The girls were required to create a 2-3 minute speech on an unseen topic and had 45 minutes to prepare and learn this. A very daunting task but one which our girls met with great conviction!

Emma spoke on the issue of leisure discussing, "My music is other people's noise". Eve spoke on the topic of entertainment, arguing "My ideal entertainment is..." and finally Leia spoke passionately on the issue of Climate Change, answering "What can we do to save the environment…is it too little, too late?".

We are thrilled that the girls were crowned as the best team and were awarded the June Meenagh-Smartt Cup for the second year in a row! This win was made even more special when Eve Wilson was crowned the best speaker of the evening. The girls will now represent Northern Ireland in the final of the competition on Saturday 7th March in University College Dublin. Good luck girls!
