On Wednesday 14th September we said a sad farewell to thirteen German students from our partner school in Bonn, the Nicolaus-Cusanus-Gymnasium, and their two teachers Frau Junker and Frau Pepeet. The groups had spent an action-packed week with their exchange partners from the Year 12 German class. During their stay they attended a welcome reception at the City Hall, they visited the Giant’s Causeway and Dunluce Castle , immersed themselves in history during visits to the Titanic Museum and later to the Ulster Folk and Transport Museum where they were given a cookery lesson on baking soda bread.
The highlight of the week was the supper and Ceilí at school. It was a wonderful evening - we watched champion dancers, listened to traditional music played by current and past pupils and practised our steps in dances such as the “Waves of Tory.” Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the return trip to Belfast; the pupils from both schools have become close friends since their first meeting in June and we all intend to keep in close contact.
