Yesterday evening six lower sixth pupils participated in the Business and Professional Women (BPW) Public Speaking Competition. Pupils were divided into two teams with Rory Maguire, Alice Marron and Michael Graham discussing “Young women of today- is it a glass ceiling or a sticky floor?” and Caoimhe Ryan, Christine Khalil and Hugh Higgins passionately debated, “Overfed or underfed- a modern day issue”. Yesterday evening Claire Hanna visited the school for a question and answer session with members of the Politics Society. Our pupils enjoyed engaging with Ms Hanna and found the experience very informative.
Last week, six Lower Sixth pupils participated in the Soroptimist Public Speaking Competition. With 18 outstanding competitors, we were delighted that Anna Sonebi achieved second place with her speech, "To bee or not bee? We had VFX and Make-up Artist Connie McGrath come in to give a workshop on making realistic bruises and injuries as part of the Cinemagic festival. It was a brilliant day with Moving Image and Drama students having the opportunity to create practical effects that they will use in their own productions.
On Thursday 7th November Rathmore Politics Society was delighted to welcome Robbie Butler MLA UUP Lagan Valley to speak to students and answer their questions. We had a very interesting and informative session and would like to thank Mr Butler for taking the time to come up to the school.
Our Year 13 pupils completed the ALPHA programme on Wednesday 6th November. Well done to all the participants as well as our Year 14 leaders, who trained to help facilitate the programme earlier this year.
