Well done to two of our students, Ciara Brennan and Olivia McCrystal, for their recent win in the Irish Schools Golf Finals. In the Senior category, Rathmore, Laurel Hill, Alexandra College, Loreto Kilkenny and St. Joseph’s Secondary School had won District honours to earn their place in the all-Ireland finals. Warm congratulations to two of our Year 9 students, Anita Rafferty and Mhia Stewart, on their recent success in arts and sports competitions. Anita took part in The International Festival of Dance and Performing Arts which was held in Disneyland Paris. Anita was announced as the winner of the solo musical theatre category, which is a fantastic achievement. Well done to our Year 8 Basketball team team who won the BNI Year 8 Tournament. They faced tough opposition from Aquinas, St. Dominics, Hazelwood and St. Patrick’s, Letterkenny. Katie Walsh was awarded the most valuable player of the tournament (MVP). Well done to all who took part.
A group of our students attended an online safety and awareness course in De La Salle College. The course was run by The Diana Award, which has teamed up with Vodafone to create the Be Strong Online Ambassadors Programme. Some of the modules they cover are: Social Media, Cyber Bullying, Selfies and Self-Esteem and Critical Thinking Online. Congratulations to The A-Level French Debating team who won their debate against Wallace High School at the annual NICILT Schools Debating competition. The team was comprised of Thomas McKeown (Captain), Rachel Horner, Michael Kelly and Claire McGloin (reserve). Rachel also won Best Speaker in their heat of the competition.
Our Year 8, 9 and 10 German pupils enjoyed a wonderful five-day trip to the Rhineland in Germany. They sampled the authentic German way of life with a day trip to the impressive city of Cologne, a visit to a chocolate museum, a scenic boat trip along the Rhine and a tour of a family-run vineyard. The pupils put their German speaking skills to the test during an Easter-themed language lesson in Koblenz and a treasure hunt through the quaint riverside town of Boppard. It was a
