Two groups of Year 13 students from Rathmore competed in the regional heat of the Schools Geology Challenge on 30th January. The competition heat was organised by the Northern Ireland Regional Group of the Geological Society of London (GSL) and hosted at Rathmore. The students were tasked with creating a poster and delivering a short presentation on the theme ‘critical geological resources’. Our pupils recently took part in individual and team Senior Maths Challenge events. In the individual event we had 4 Gold, 11 Silver and 22 Bronze certificates awarded. Congratulations to Ryan Austin, Jude Horner, Ronan Lawlor and Caolan Plumb for their Gold award! We also had 5 Year 13 and 14 students who qualified for the Senior Kangaroo Challenge and Conal Murray received a merit. The Team Challenge was held in Rockport School and we were placed 7th in the Regional Final.
Good luck to two of our Year 14 students Jack McGarry and Vincent Hale who won their heat in the 'Sea Sessions Unsigned' competition for new bands held recently in Bundoran. They compete again on the 19th January, with the successful band getting a spot to play at the Sea Sessions Festival which many big acts play, including Primal Scream, the Coronas and Dizzee Rascal.
Technology and Design were pleased to welcome the STEM Bus to Rathmore recently. Providing an insight into CAD/CAM and the use of CNC routers to complete name plaques was a great extension to our GCSE and AS programmes of study. Sixty pupils from Year 12, AS and some A2 participated in three workshops throughout the day in which they used CAD software to design their own name plaque. This was converted to STL file which could then be translated by the CNC router machines and
