Our students have shown their generous nature once again in this year's Catholic Caring Campaign. Led by our Prefect Team each tutor group was responsible for buying gifts for a local child and they put together a festive food hamper for a local family. The school has been supporting the St Vincent de Paul Annual Appeal for over thirty years and each year we continue to be overwhelmed by the kindness of both students and staff.
The Arkwright Scholarship programme aims to support future leaders in Engineering through financial incentive and practical experiences. The Technology and Design department has been involved since its inception in Northern Ireland in 2012. Congratulations to our Year 10 student Conor Murphy who is Rathmore's 2017 Chess Champion. Conor played very well checking his way through all the year groups. Congratulations to the five girls who participated in the 36th Annual Soroptimist International Public Speaking Competition on 22nd November. The girls prepared and delivered their speeches on a range of topics from ‘Every generation has had its problems – what’s in store for me?’ to ‘Immigration – How open should our doors be?’ Well done to all the girls who participated and a special mention to Clare McCorry who was placed second overall!

Our Year 8 STEM club continued recently with pupils enjoying a practical based activity in Technology and Design. Pupils used a number of marking out and manufacturing techniques to produce a mobile phone holder, complete with functional circuit that illuminates when a call or text is received. Our Year 8 pupils took part in a writing workshop on Tuesday 14th November with Pat Ryan, a writer and storyteller. Pupils participated in a number of activities to stimulate their imaginations and writing skill. They really enjoyed the workshop and learned a lot from Pat.
