BT Herald Cup final : Rathmore Grammar 2-10, St Michael’s Lurgan 0-12.
Goals in the first ten minutes from Conor Leonard and Brian Crossan were the scores that took Rathmore Grammar to a first ever BT Herald Cup title in Aghagallon yesterday evening. Indeed the Belfast boys, with full-forward Ryan McNulty in superb form, had run in 2-4 before St Michael’s Lurgan raised their first flag courtesy of a point from Ruairi Loughran, who also had an excellent game particularly in the second half when he moved to full-forward.
There was only a point each during the second quarter and the sides turned over at 2-5 to 0-2. St Michael’s dug deep during the second half and closed the gap with some excellent points from Loughran and James McDade. But Rathmore always seemed capable of bursting up the field to strike a point in reply in what was a fine game of attacking football from both teams. Substitute Conor O’Doherty shot a late point that ensured that St Michael’s didn’t close beyond 3 points of the eventual winners, who have picked up their second title in as many days following their BT McGreevy Cup victory yesterday in hurling.
