In September twenty three Upper Sixth pupils were given an amazing opportunity. We were to team up with students from Glenveagh in a joint Art project. Every Monday Glenveagh came to our school where we worked together!
Over the next nine weeks the project evolved as we worked in collaboration to make a final ceramic panel. Guided by teachers from Glenveagh and Rathmore, together with the pupils of Glenveagh, we started our masterpiece! We began with a few ice breakers, letting us all get to know each other better, which was very funny, especially seeing everyone dance when we played musical statues!
The next step was for us to get our creative juices flowing, we went outside and we picked up some autumn leaves, and we then pressed them into clay and painted them with warm oranges and reds! The week after we were all ready to go, so in pairs we all began to draw pictures of our partners, and from those pictures, we began to create our faces by using clay and funky paints. At the end of all our hard work we had created so many wonderful pieces, each of them showing our personalities and our team work, and we were all so proud of everything we had done together! The final week was a celebration for us all, and we all had party games and lots of treats! Yet again, the dancing and singing was in full swing with everyone enjoying ceili and alternative styles of dancing!! To our delight we were invited by Glenveagh to come see our new friends in their Christmas Concert. It was fantastic! It was great to be able to go to Glenveagh and be able to see around their school, we all loved it!
Throughout our experience in collaborating with Glenveagh, we’ve all met some amazing new friends, had some great laughs and learnt a lot, and we are so grateful for having the opportunity to be able to meet some amazing young people and we look forward to seeing our friends again in the new year when we present the final masterpiece to both schools.!
