Sociology Department
Let us look into the minds of the great sociologists:
“Anyone who knows anything about history knows that great social changes are impossible without feminine upheaval. Social progress can be measured exactly by the social position of the fair sex.” Karl Marx
“Some laws of state aimed at curbing crime are even more criminal.” Friedrich Engels
“Reality seems valueless by comparison with the dreams of fevered imaginations.” Emile Durkheim
“The fate of our time is characterised by rationalisation and intellectualisation and, above all, by the disenchantment of the world.” Max Weber
The Sociology Department at Rathmore is successful and lively. A range of teaching styles and learning experiences is used to cater for the needs and abilities of all pupils who study the subject.
The department aims:
-To broaden the pupils understanding of the social world around them at local, national and international levels;
-To give all pupils the opportunity to fulfil their potential in the pursuit of academic excellence;
-To equip pupils with the academic and social skills necessary for their life after school.
