Spanish Department
The Spanish Department aims to make pupils aware of the importance of learning Spanish as a foreign language. Teaching and learning takes place in an enjoyable and stimulating environment. Pupils study Spanish from Year 8 and, in addition to learning the basic skills of the language, they are encouraged to appreciate the difference between our culture and that of Spain and Latin America.
Every 3 years, for a number of years, the Spanish Department has organised a school trip to Barcelona, with pupils staying in groups of two or three in Spanish families. We see this as extremely beneficial for the pupils, who are able to experience the language at first hand.
‘A’ level pupils have the opportunity to attend a language course in Salamanca during the summer. This encourages them to aim at a high level in Spanish, and inspires them with confidence to use the language.
