German Department
Our main aims in the German Department are:
to stimulate and/or maintain lasting curiosity, interest and enjoyment in the language;
to enable each pupil to achieve his/her potential in a variety of situations, using all available resources appropriately;
to develop the ability to use German effectively for purposes of practical communication.
In all year groups we try to give our pupils every opportunity to experience German as a living language. From the outset we encourage them to correspond with pen-pals from a German-speaking country. We also organise regular school trips to Germany and encourage our Year 11 pupils to take part in the annual exchange programme with our partner school in Bonn. In addition, our Sixth Form pupils are given the option of carrying out their work shadow in Bonn.
