ICT provides pupils with opportunities to:

• choose, use and design information and communication systems to carry out a range of tasks and to solve problems, making effective use of appropriate principles and techniques;
• develop a broad and balanced experience of the range of information and communication systems and their applications and an understanding of their capabilities and limitations. 

Rathmore Grammar School provides opportunities to:

• develop knowledge about the nature and range of ICT tools such as word-processors, databases, spreadsheets, those for communication, desk-top publishing, design, image-processing and control and the ways in which such tools can integrate with each other
• develop the skills to select ICT tools appropriate to a variety of contexts and tasks and to employ them effectively, taking proper account of their limitations;
• read and understand information, present ideas, formulate questions, drawing on the appropriate technical vocabulary (literary and numeracy skills);
• analyse situations to identify information gaps, and identify resources and sources for obtaining the information (problem solving skills);
• apply appropriate strategies to search for information, question and discriminate between sources; extract and synthesise key points, and evaluate findings (information handling skills)
