English Department
Welcome to the Rathmore English Department. Our aim is to cultivate a love of literature in our pupils as well as an understanding of the practical application of the spoken and written word. The department adopts an integrated and holistic approach to learning by teaching grammar, syntax, punctuation and the more technical aspects of language, through the study of literature in all its genres. We endeavour to achieve an enriching classroom experience in which the creative and the functional are combined and the personal and educational interests of the individual child are kept to the fore.
Extra Curricular:
We currently run a very vibrant series of extra-curricular activities. Pupils have been on many trips to the theatre in Belfast, Armagh, Dublin and London and have visited places of literary interest and general artistic importance.
There is a very energetic and successful Public Speaking and Debating Society that runs events both within and outside the school for all year groups.
