General Information:

Careers Education and Guidance plays a significant role in the life of the school, involving as it does the preparation of pupils for adult and working life.  The Careers Department helps to prepare pupils to make informed choices in line with their career aspirations.  

Some activities within the Careers Department:

August:

Help and advice offered to pupils receiving A-level and GCSE results

September:

Completion of UCAS forms
Visits to St Mary’s, UU and QUB Open Days
Careers Service NI begin working with Year 12

October:

Interview Skills Classes for Year 14
Work Shadow deadline for Year 13
UCAS references are written
Early UCAS forms are sent

November:

Talk on applying to St Mary’s
Talk on applying through CAO
Interview Skills Day for Year 14
Careers Taster Event (every 2 years)
Year 10 Careers Evening (GCSE choices)
Mock interviews for Oxbridge candidates

December:

Finalise UCAS forms and send to UCAS

January:

Year 13 on Work Shadow
Year 10 Guidance Interviews
Careers Service NI work with Year 10
Year 12 Careers Evening (A-level choices)

February:

Year 10 GCSE Choices Deadline
Year 12 Guidance Interviews

March:

Begin work on Personal Statements and UCAS with Year 13 (through tutor group)

April:

Year 13 Guidance Interviews
Talks on Admissions Tests for Year 13

May:

Higher Education Night for Year 13

Ongoing:

Careers Talks take place every few weeks at 1.00 in the Careers Room
Careers Club for Year 8 and 9 meet with Careers Prefects
Careers Service NI provide Guidance Interviews for Year 12
